Manufacturing & Industrial
Factories, foundries, panel-beaters, injection-moulders and heavy-industrial sites with sustained daytime loads. Grid-tied or hybrid, 50 kW to 500 kW+, generator-synchronised where needed.
See industrial packagesTurnkey 15 kW to 500 kW+ solar PV and battery storage for factories, warehouses, farms, cold storage, agri-processing, retail and hospitality. Synergy Energy Solutions has commissioned over 1 700 systems since 2010, every project SAPVIA-aligned, NRS 097-2-1 compliant, and underwritten by a free Eskom tariff audit that typically saves businesses 10 to 25% on their bill before a single panel is fitted.
From a 15 kW retail shop in Centurion to a 500 kW cold-chain facility in the Western Cape, Synergy Energy Solutions designs, supplies, installs and commissions three-phase solar PV and battery systems that pay back in under four years, often under two.
Electricity is now the single biggest controllable expense on most South African balance sheets. With Eskom tariffs having climbed well above inflation for more than a decade and load shedding still a real risk through 2026, commercial and industrial solar systems have become essential infrastructure rather than a sustainability nice-to-have.
Synergy specialises in the segment most integrators avoid: mid-size and large three-phase installations from 15 kW through 500 kW and beyond. Our engineering team has commissioned over 1 700 systems including grid-tied factories, hybrid retail parks, off-grid farms, generator-synchronised logistics hubs and agri-processing plants. Every project is designed around your actual 30-minute load profile, roof orientation and phase balance, not a one-size-fits-all template.
All packages are engineered to SAPVIA, NRS 097-2-1 and SANS 10142 standards, with SSEG registration handled end-to-end for municipal and Eskom-connected sites. Every Synergy system is technician-installed, electrician-certified, and handed over with a full Certificate of Compliance.
The same three-phase engineering platform powers factories, farms and retail centres. Pick a package below, or tell us your load profile and we'll size a bespoke system for your site.

Most South African businesses don't know they're on the wrong Eskom or municipal tariff. In many of the commercial site surveys we've completed, we've identified billing-structure changes that save the client money monthly, sometimes thousands of rands, before a single solar panel is installed. This is a free service we include with every commercial enquiry, and it's something virtually no other solar company offers.
Eskom alone publishes more than a dozen tariff categories. Municipalities add their own structures on top. Each one carries a different combination of energy charges (c/kWh), network capacity charges (R/kVA/month), demand charges, service and administration fees, and time-of-use (TOU) pricing bands. Move a business from the wrong tariff to the right one and you can cut the monthly bill by 10 to 25% with zero capital investment.
The 2025/2026 Eskom Retail Tariff Plan restructure made this even more important. The Generation Capacity Charge is now being phased in at 20% in FY2026, rising to 30% in FY2027, a fixed monthly cost that hurts low-load-factor businesses disproportionately. Peak/standard/off-peak TOU bands have been re-scheduled, evening peaks extended to 3 hours on weekdays, and the high-season to low-season price ratio tightened. Most of these changes went unnoticed by the businesses they affect most.
Depending on your connection type, notified maximum demand (NMD), load profile and location, the most relevant tariffs for commercial, industrial and agricultural clients include:
| Tariff | Typical user | Structure |
|---|---|---|
| Businessrate 1, 2, 3 | Small commercial, churches, schools, clinics, offices | Flat-rate energy charge + fixed daily charges. Simplest structure. |
| Miniflex | Medium commercial & light industrial | Time-of-use energy, network demand, seasonal variation. |
| Megaflex | Large industrial & mining, large commercial | Full TOU, demand charges, Transmission zone pricing. Most complex and highest variability. |
| Nightsave Urban (Large/Small) | Retailers & industries with off-peak loads | Cheaper off-peak rates, heavier peak-period penalties. |
| Ruraflex & Ruraflex Gen | Farms, pack-houses, irrigation, agri-processing | Rural TOU. Gen version mandatory for on-site solar generation. |
| Landrate | Smaller rural businesses & agricultural | Flat rate with daily service charge. |
| Homeflex | Small business operating from residential premises with solar | Residential TOU with net-billing for grid-exported solar. |
| MunicFlex & Municrate | Municipal-supplied customers | Introduced 2025, replaces previous local-authority bulk structures. |
Before we even quote you on a solar system, our energy team will:
1. Bill review. Send us your last three Eskom or municipal invoices. We analyse every line, energy, demand, service, network capacity, reactive energy, levies and the new Generation Capacity Charge.
2. Load profile analysis. Where you have smart-metering data, we extract your half-hourly consumption curve to find your real peak-to-off-peak ratio, load factor and power factor.
3. Tariff benchmarking. We model your current bill against every applicable alternative tariff, Businessrate vs Miniflex, Megaflex vs Nightsave Urban, Ruraflex vs Landrate, to find the cheapest structure for your specific usage.
4. Action plan. If a better tariff exists, we give you the paperwork and utility-engagement guidance to apply for it. If your NMD (notified maximum demand) is set incorrectly, we show you how to reduce it. If your power factor penalises you under a demand tariff, we flag it.
Tariff optimisation isn't a one-time service, it multiplies the return on your solar investment. The right tariff combined with battery storage enables peak shaving: charging batteries during cheap off-peak periods (as low as R0.70/kWh in some tariff structures) and discharging them during expensive peak hours (R3.50 to R4.00+/kWh), capturing the arbitrage on every single kWh. It also enables demand-charge reduction, if your tariff charges per kVA of maximum demand, a properly-sized battery can cap your peak demand and cut that line item by 40 to 60%. On sites with poor power factor, we also assess whether power factor correction capacitor banks would generate further savings (typical ROI on PFC alone: 6 to 18 months).
This is why our SigenStor, Deye HV and Sunsynk hybrid inverters all include full TOU programming and grid-export scheduling. The hardware is smart enough to arbitrage automatically; our job is to make sure the tariff underneath it is the right one to arbitrage against.
Sometimes our tariff audit reveals that a solar system isn't your most urgent priority. If you're on the wrong tariff by R 8,000 a month, we'll tell you to fix that first. We'd rather earn your trust and your solar project next year than push a system you don't need today. This is why we do the audit free, and why most clients who get an audit from us eventually install with us.
Twelve of the questions we hear most from commercial, industrial and agricultural buyers in South Africa. Don't see your question answered? Call us on 010 601 6464.
For a typical 30 kW to 100 kW commercial system, installation on site takes between 5 and 15 working days once materials are on site. Larger industrial systems of 150 kW and above typically run 3 to 6 weeks. Project lead-times are largely driven by your decision-making pace and any municipal SSEG approval requirements, not ours.
Yes. Any grid-tied commercial or industrial solar system connected to an Eskom or municipal supply must be registered as a Small-Scale Embedded Generator under NRS 097-2-1. Synergy handles the full SSEG application, NRS 097 compliance documentation, CoC and utility approvals as part of every commercial installation.
Most of our commercial packages pay back between 2 and 4 years based on current Eskom and municipal tariffs. Larger HV systems with strong daytime consumption routinely achieve under 2-year ROI. Exact payback depends on your tariff, daily load profile and diesel spend if you're currently running generators.
Yes. We design and install three-phase systems for factories, warehouses, retail centres, pack-houses, dairies, poultry farms, irrigation schemes, cold storage and agri-processing facilities across Gauteng, Western Cape, Limpopo and nationwide. Our engineering team sizes each system against your specific load profile, roof structure and phase balance.
Yes. All our commercial hybrid inverters (SigenStor, Deye HV, Sunsynk) can synchronise with existing diesel generators. The solar and battery run as the primary source, the generator engages only as a backup during extended cloud cover or high-demand periods. This typically cuts diesel consumption by 70 to 95 percent.
Grid-tied offsets daytime Eskom consumption with no battery, best for shift-running factories and businesses with strong daylight loads. Hybrid adds batteries for load shedding backup, tariff arbitrage and after-hours self-consumption. Off-grid is for remote farms, game lodges and rural sites with no reliable utility supply. Most South African businesses benefit from hybrid.
Yes. We partner with major South African solar finance providers to offer structured business loans, rent-to-own agreements and operating lease arrangements. Many clients structure the monthly finance payment to be lower than their current Eskom bill, so the system is cash-flow positive from month one.
Standard warranties are 25 years on 600 W JA Solar panels, 10 to 15 years on batteries depending on brand (SigenStor, Dyness, Volta, Freedom Won), 10 years on inverters and 2 years on our workmanship. Extended care plans and scheduled maintenance contracts are available for larger installations.
Yes, and this is a service almost no other solar company offers. As part of every commercial enquiry we review your last three bills, analyse your load profile, and benchmark your current tariff against every applicable alternative, Businessrate, Miniflex, Megaflex, Nightsave Urban, Ruraflex, Landrate, Homeflex and the new MunicFlex. In many cases we identify tariff changes or NMD adjustments that save clients 10 to 25 percent monthly before any solar capital is spent. This audit is free.
It depends on your connection size, load profile and whether you're rural or urban. Small commercial clients on Businessrate 1 or 2 often stay put as flat-rate pricing is simpler. Medium commercial on Miniflex and large industrial on Megaflex benefit most from battery-enabled peak shaving, charging batteries on cheap off-peak rates and discharging during expensive peak periods. Farms on Ruraflex must convert to Ruraflex Gen once grid-tied solar is installed. Our free tariff audit identifies the right structure for your specific site.
Absolutely. The 12 listed packages are starting points that cover the most common commercial and industrial requirements. Our engineers routinely design custom systems from 15 kW up to 1 MW+ using multiple inverters in parallel, bespoke battery configurations and ground-mount or carport structures where roof space is limited.
Yes. Synergy has branches in Centurion (Gauteng HQ), Cape Town and Polokwane, with commissioned projects across all nine provinces. We regularly deploy installation teams to KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, North West, Free State and the Northern Cape for commercial and agricultural projects.
