String-tied panels send DC into the inverter. We size and orient the array around your actual driving distance and home load, not generic kWh-per-kWp tables that ignore SA-specific shading and roof angles.
This is where the integration lives. A hybrid inverter and EMS decide, minute by minute, whether surplus solar charges your battery, charges your EV, or exports. Without one, your charger is just a glorified plug.
EVs don't always charge when the sun shines. The home battery time-shifts solar to evening charging, keeps essentials running through load-shedding, and lets you charge cheaply on Eskom Homeflex off-peak tariffs.
Solar-aware EV chargers (Sigen EV AC, Victron EV Station, Tesla Wall Connector with PV) follow the production curve, accept Homeflex schedules, and, on bidirectional Sigen DC units, let your EV act as a backup battery for V2H during outages.

The single biggest factor in which charger suits your home is the type of electrical supply you already have. Most South African homes don't need to upgrade, but knowing which camp you're in saves weeks of back-and-forth.
Standard 60 to 80 amp supply. Caps at 7.4 kW charging, about 30 km of range per hour.
Typically found in newer developments and sectional title schemes. Unlocks 11 kW or 22 kW, up to 110 km of range per hour.

Eskom automatically applies the Homeflex time-of-use tariff to direct customers who register rooftop solar. Understood and scheduled properly, it rewards EV drivers. Ignored, it punishes them.
Homeflex divides each day into three windows, off-peak, standard, and peak, and charges different per-kWh rates in each, with rates further seasonally adjusted (winter peak is the most expensive). For an EV driver the practical play is simple: schedule charging for the overnight off-peak window, where the rate is the cheapest of the day.
Every smart EV charger we install, Tesla Wall Connector, Sigen EV AC, Victron EV Station, supports scheduled charging via its companion app. On a typical 1 500 km-per-month commuting profile, shifting charging from standard to off-peak saves roughly R1 500 to R3 000 per year. On top of that, any daytime solar surplus routed to the car is effectively free.
